Onsite Medical Services

Professional Medical Services for Organisations

When somebody becomes unwell or injured at work, the difference between basic first aid and a professional clinical response can be significant.

For many organisations, especially those with public access, lone working, physical risk, late-night trading, remote locations or large numbers of staff and visitors, relying on a first aid box alone is no longer sufficient.

Coast Medic Ambulance is a CQC registered Ambulance Service Provider, authorised to provide clinician led, onsite medical support for businesses across Cornwall, Devon and the South West.

Our teams can deliver regular onsite attendance, on-call clinical support, ambulance standby and tailored workplace medical planning designed around your risks, your people and your operating hours.

We already provide 24/7 on-call medical support to Falmouth University, with clinicians available day and night and the ability to attend onsite as required. This model ensures that staff and students have rapid access to professional medical care whenever it is needed, without delay.

Employers are required to assess their first-aid needs and provide provision that are both adequate and appropriate for their workplace.

That assessment should take into consideration the type of work being carried out, the hazards present, the size of the workforce, accident history, lone or remote working, public access and how quickly emergency services can reach site.

With significant pressure on our NHS services, delays in ambulance response have become increasingly problematic, increasing the need for staff to manage casualties for prolonged periods before the NHS can take over care.

For some businesses, a trained first aider may be sufficient to meet requirements, but for others, it is not.

If your site includes machinery, working at height, confined spaces, electrical hazards, hazardous substances, large crowds, alcohol-related risk, challenging behaviour, marine activity, heavy manual handling, night-time operations or delayed ambulance access, a higher level of provision may be appropriate.

A professional onsite medical service helps you protect staff, reassure visitors, reduce delays in care strengthen your overall emergency preparedness and remain a cost effective solution.

The Importance of
On-site Medical Support

There is an important difference between basic first aid and a clinical response service;

A first aider can provide immediate assistance within the limits of first aid training.

A professional regulated medical provider, can bring a wider level of clinical assessment, decision-making and escalation.

Regulated ambulance services, like Coast Medic Ambulance,  are able to assess, treat and care for patients at scene, with the ability to escalate care appropriately and support onward transport where required.

For businesses, that means faster access to experienced clinicians, better on-site decision making, safer escalation, clearer documentation and a more resilient response when the unexpected happens.

First Aid and Medical Teams are Different

  • Entertainment venues

Regular medical support is particularly valuable for arenas, theatres, live music venues, night-time economy settings, racecourses, seasonal attractions and other public-facing venues where high footfall, alcohol consumption, crowd movement and slip, trip or fall risks can increase the likelihood of incidents.

Coast Medic can support venues with regular operating sessions, not just one-off events. That may include a medic or ambulance resource during trading hours, support for special performances, standby for high-profile dates, or a structured response plan for the whole season.

  • Industrial and operational sites

Factories, depots, quarries, ports, utilities, engineering facilities, construction environments and infrastructure sites often carry a level of risk that goes far beyond office-based first aid provision. Crush injuries, falls, machinery incidents, burns, trauma, medical collapse, cardiac arrest and delayed access to casualties can all change the level of preparedness required.

We can provide on-site clinicians, ambulance standby, medical room support and bespoke response arrangements for higher-risk workplaces, including locations where site geography or operational constraints may delay NHS access.

  • Tourism and visitor sites

Visitor attractions, holiday parks, water-based locations, heritage sites and large estates may have fluctuating footfall, seasonal peaks and mixed risk profiles involving both staff and the public. We help operators build sensible, proportionate medical arrangements that fit their site and operating model.

Who this service is for?

What Coast Medic can provide

  • Regular onsite clinicians

We can provide responders, technicians, ambulance staff, nurses or paramedics depending on your needs assessment and risk profile. This can be arranged for fixed hours, nights, weekends, seasonal operations or peak-risk periods.

  • On Call Medical Support

For organisations that do not require a permanent onsite presence, our on-call model provides immediate access to professional clinical support when needed.

Our work with Falmouth University demonstrates how this model can operate effectively — with 24/7 availability and rapid onsite response when required, ensuring continuous coverage without unnecessary cost.

  • Ambulance Standby

Where your risk profile justifies it, we can place an ambulance resource on or near site to support rapid treatment, safe monitoring and onward care arrangements.

  • Medical Room Setup and Oversight

If your workplace or venue requires a dedicated treatment area, we can help you establish a suitable medical room arrangement, equipment standards, stock management and escalation process.

  • Incident response planning

We help businesses prepare for foreseeable emergencies, from cardiac arrest and collapse through to trauma, crowd-related incidents and site evacuations. This includes clinical escalation plans, rendezvous arrangements, documentation processes and liaison with emergency services.

  • Support for staff and the public

Many businesses must consider not only employee welfare but also customers, contractors, performers and visitors. We help ensure your provision reflects the real risks associated with your environment.

We offer specialist ambulance transfers between the Isles of Scilly and mainland healthcare services, supporting patients who require safe and reliable transport from the islands to mainland health facilities.

Our service is designed to assist with low-acuity emergency transfers, urgent medical transport and routine patient journeys between the islands and mainland treatment facilities.

Through our partnership with Penzance Heliport, we are able to coordinate rapid and efficient patient transfers from the Isles of Scilly to mainland hospitals, helping patients access the care they need without unnecessary delays. This service is particularly valuable for hospital appointments, investigations, specialist treatments, and non-critical emergency transfers where patients require medical support during the journey.

Coast Medic can deploy experienced clinicians to the Isles of Scilly, who are able to fly out to the islands, assess patients and provide clinical care throughout the transfer.

Our paramedics can accompany patients during helicopter flights between the islands and the mainland, before continuing care by ambulance to the receiving hospital or healthcare facility.

With expertise in marine and remote healthcare environments, Coast Medic is uniquely positioned to support the logistical challenges of providing patient transport from the Isles of Scilly, ensuring each transfer is safe, coordinated and clinically appropriate from island to hospital door.
